Hi, I'm Michael! I will admit I have little formal training, but trust me when I say I've been tickling the ivories since I was a kid. I also have perfect pitch which really helped me in my journey learning jazz since it is a language that is learned through lots and lots of listening. I have lots of experience performing live (mostly jazz but also other genres). I don't really have many records to back this up but you can hear for yourself and decide if I'm a good enough player in our first lesson. For what it's worth, I'm also the executive of the Light Music Club, an organization within the University of Toronto. My dream is for everybody to be able to express themselves through music, and to be able to play the things they enjoy. My roommate was a classical pianist but upon learning he was interested in the jazz music I played, I decided to teach him the basics for free, and it was much more enjoyable and fulfilling than I thought. So I guess I'm here more because I enjoy it haha.

You want to learn piano. Unfortunately I cannot teach classical music, but if you enjoy genres other than classical music, I believe my lessons can help you play the music you really enjoy.
The knowledge I impart is mostly all information I learned online and through listening to piano styles that I really liked. You can do that too for free, but I can give you shortcuts to make things run a little quicker.
Basically as long as you learn chords (and a bit of the music theory associated with chords) you'll be set for the rest of your life. You'll be able to play your favourite songs, join bands with ease, and perhaps even compose your own music.
Of course, being able to read sheet music would also be an asset but I can help with that too. In particular, if you have a certain song you want to play but you can't find sheet music or the arrangement you found is too difficult, I can make an arrangement that fits your skill level.
Can teach pop, jazz, and bossa nova.
