About Tabes
I earned my BA in music (and mathematics) from Columbia University, where I studied voice with Spiro Malas and composition with Terry Pender. I presently study with Wendy Bloom (voice) and Juhi Bansal (composition), and I have worked for the last 6 years as a professional choral singer in Chicago. Alongside my musical activities, I have taught mathematics at the college level for 10 years (the last 5 years full time).

For voice students: I offer an introduction to the fundamentals of healthy singing. While my approach is rooted in so-called "classical" singing, the same principals underpin all styles.
For composition students: whether you are new to composing or have been writing music for a while, we will work together to deepen your understanding of who you are as a musician, refine your technique, and hone your approach to self-expression. Background in notated music and theory is certainly helpful, but by no means necessary; I will meet you where you are in terms of ability, and if desired I can take an integrated approach that combines composition with theory.
