About Ruth

I am an experienced English instructor with a strong background in academic writing, communication, and working with diverse learners. My professional experience in education and a TEFL teacher for the past 10 years has strengthened my ability to break down complex ideas, guide thoughtful discussion, and support students in developing clear, effective communication skills.

Learning English can be fun and exciting! It is a language that can open up doors and I want to help you open up your life to successful pathways. My approach is to be student-centered and to make sure to challenge you but not discourage you.

Students and families can expect a professional, organized, and supportive learning environment. I am committed to reliability, strong communication, and helping each student achieve measurable improvement in their English skills.

Teaching Method and Techniques
My teaching approach is rooted in TEFL methodologies, emphasizing communicative language teaching, student-centered learning, and real-world application. I prioritize interactive lessons that build confidence in speaking, reading, and writing through discussion, guided practice, and feedback. Drawing on my experience working with diverse communities, I incorporate culturally responsive teaching techniques and differentiate instruction to meet each student’s learning style and pace. I also integrate practical content—such as academic writing, professional communication, and critical thinking—to ensure lessons are both relevant and empowering.

A Typical Lesson Plan:
A typical lesson begins with a warm-up activity to activate prior knowledge and build comfort with the topic. This is followed by a structured introduction to new material, whether it’s a grammar concept, vocabulary set, or writing skill. Students then engage in guided practice through interactive exercises, discussions, or short writing tasks. The lesson builds toward independent application, where students practice the skill more freely
- Such as: Writing a paragraph, having a conversation, or looking through texts relevant to the need of the student.

I close with feedback, reflection, and a brief review to reinforce learning objectives and track progress.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
What sets me apart is my ability to connect language learning with real-world skills and student goals. My background in advocacy and community engagement has strengthened my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, facilitate meaningful discussions, and support learners from diverse backgrounds. I bring patience, adaptability, and a strong focus on building confidence. This is especially for students who may feel hesitant or underserved in traditional learning environments.

Who the Lessons Are For:
My lessons are designed for middle school, high school, and college-level students, as well as adult learners seeking to improve their English proficiency. I support a range of learners, including ESL/ELL students, individuals strengthening academic writing skills, and those preparing for exams or professional communication. Lessons are adaptable for different proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced, and can be tailored to specific goals such as essay writing, reading comprehension, or conversational fluency.
