About Brian
I've been a classroom teacher for 25 years, and have designed highly successful courses in French, Spanish, and other languages; ESL; mathematics; teaching methodologies; and research methods (for university and graduate level students). My style as a teacher is about uncovering how each student learns and working with them to develop tricks, strategies, routines that support them in being successful at school in a way that is uniquely theirs. I teach students how to communicate well in a new language and be skilled at maths, but the way we do that together is not so much about ME telling THEM to do it THIS WAY. It's more about THEM telling ME what they need so that we figure out AN EFFECTIVE WAY to approach learning. Studying in this way will get you good grades, but it will also lead to something you'll remember for the rest of your life—how to learn anything you want well.

Did you know that research has shown that some 80% of students in schools do not learn effectively the same way their teachers do? For them, being successful can be a real challenge. Writing is hard. Rules don't make sense. Figuring out how to decode maths doesn't stick. If you're reading this, do you feel like this is true? I teach real-world skills with creative, engaging lessons designed with my students' learning styles in mind. I work regularly with divergent learners, many of whom find maths and languages intimidating because the way these are taught in school doesn't work for them. There are lots of ways to learn these, though, and I take the time to find what works for YOU. My goal is to see my students empowered to take things on because they realise that, with the right tools, they can be effective learners. My lessons are designed for students from about year 7 (6th grade) through university and last up to one hour.
