About Richard
I’m an experienced artist and dedicated tutor with a background in painting, printmaking, and artist-led research. A Slade graduate who's held multiple scholarships, I’ve studied and taught across Europe—including MA studies in Hamburg with and a printmaking internship in Vienna. Currently I work as a secondary school art technician while maintaining my research and making my artwork. As such I have an enhanced DBS check. My practice is grounded in painting, experimentation, critical thinking, and a deep respect for craft, developed through years of both independent studio work and hands-on roles in manufacturing, gallery tech, and education. I’ve taught a range of learners, from school students to university peers, and supported inclusive teaching by working with artists and learners with complex access needs. I bring technical expertise in traditional and digital processes—etching, woodcut, monoprinting, laser cutting, and more—paired with an enthusiastic, sensitive approach to individual learning. Whether guiding a beginner or mentoring advanced students, I foster confidence, curiosity, and material knowledge through supportive, engaging sessions tailored to each person’s needs.

I have a wide knowledge of emerging and traditional techniques. Expert support in painting, printmaking, mixed media, photography, ceramics and sculpture for all ages and levels. I want to work with you to refine your skills and help articulate your aims. Portfolio Development, interview preparation and formal course preparation - I have experience in many different art contexts, from the UK university system to European academies, secondary schools and higher education courses. I am a current PhD student that continues my own artistic work. As such, I can help with any academic writing and research, while being thoroughly engaged with the process.
