About Mary
My name is Mary Sowmia. I’m a professional engineer. At the same time, I'm a tutor. I have 14 years of experience in the teaching field. I’m helping others ask better questions, think critically, and see patterns that make knowledge come alive. Every time I teach, I learn too — by understanding how people think, what inspires them, and how they solve problems.
My goal is to make learning feel less like memorizing and more like discovering. I can explain it in a way that everyone can understand.

Yes, definitely my classes are different because I explain briefly and use shortcut methods. Use clear goals, real-life examples, and active questioning to make mathematics meaningful, collaborative, and fun for every learner, while regularly checking understanding and adjusting instruction to support different abilities and learning styles. • Start with very simple problems so students feel safe sharing (for example, 9 + 6, 15 − 7, 3 × 5).
• Establish norms: listen carefully, no laughing at mistakes, and focus on reasoning.
• Keep it truly short and daily so it becomes a routine, not a long lesson.
• Link problems to your current unit (addition, fractions, multiplication, etc.) and gradually increase complexity as students’ confidence grows.
