About Melissa
I am a certified educator with a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Gifted Education and years of experience teaching and supporting upper elementary and middle school learners. Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of students, from those who need extra support to those who thrive on enrichment and academic challenge. My professional background allows me to quickly identify learning gaps, strengthen skills, and build students’ confidence in their abilities.
I pride myself on being dependable, prepared, and highly responsive to each student’s needs. My approach as a tutor is student-centered, strengths-based, and highly personalized. I believe students learn best when they feel confident, challenged, and supported, so I tailor every session to meet individual learning styles, interests, and goals. I use research-based instructional strategies such as guided practice, modeling, questioning techniques, and scaffolded support to help students build independence and deep understanding rather than simply memorizing answers.
A typical lesson with me begins with a quick check-in and review to assess prior understanding, followed by targeted instruction focused on a specific skill or concept. We then practice together using engaging, interactive activities before transitioning to independent application. I close each session with reflection, feedback, and clear next steps so students leave feeling successful and motivated.
