My approach as a tutor is grounded in special education best practices, strengths-based instruction, and an understanding that students learn best when they feel supported, understood, and empowered. I focus on helping students develop the skills behind learning—the executive functioning and study strategies that allow them to become confident, independent learners.
Teaching Method and Techniques
I use explicit, structured instruction combined with individualized coaching. Lessons are broken into manageable steps, with clear modeling, guided practice, and opportunities for reflection. I incorporate:

• Explicit instruction in planning, organization, time management, and task initiation
• Metacognitive strategies to help students understand how they learn
• Real-world application of skills to current coursework
• Positive reinforcement and strengths-based feedback
Instruction is always flexible and responsive, adjusting pace, tools, and strategies based on the learner’s needs.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each session is purposeful and predictable while remaining responsive to student needs:
1. Check-in and goal review – Discuss successes, challenges, and priorities
2. Skill focus – Target one executive functioning or study skill (e.g., organizing assignments, breaking down tasks, test preparation, note-taking)
3. Application – Apply the skill directly to the student’s current work or upcoming assignments
4. Practice and coaching – Guided practice with fading support
5. Reflection and planning – Identify strategies to use independently before the next session
Families and students leave sessions with clear strategies they can immediately use.

What distinguishes my work is my deep background in special education, executive functioning, and learning differences. I bring decades of experience supporting students with diverse needs, including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and anxiety related to school performance.
