About Madeline
I have worked in special education for four years. This does not mean that my skills are only useful to special education students. Many students find the style of special education teaching to be helpful. While there are some techniques that may not be helpful to every student, that is the beauty of special education; it is individualized and adaptable. I have a very positive outlook when it comes to working with students. I believe every student can be successful with the right support, and I want to be as much of that support as I can.

I’ve worked at a variety of ages (mostly grades k-8) and have many strategies for delivering instruction that is tailored to the needs of the student. One thing I take into my work that makes it unique is the practice of no-fail instruction. During practice times, I see no benefit in the student not answering a question correctly. I have found it more useful to model and explain answers, and practice more as needed so as not to make students feel discouraged or unable. Every student is capable of reaching their goals with the right support. Generally, the only time I will allow students to answer incorrectly without modeling is during assessments/data collection, and then that will be noted so we can build those skills later. I feel comfortable supporting work given by others (caregivers or school districts), but would also be able to create lesson plans and a curriculum based around state standards or individual goals.
