About Siddhant

I am currently studying chemical engineering at the University of Pretoria, to eventually become an environmental engineer. I was a distinction student in high school in the rigorous CIE syllabus, and it was really a shock finding university is so much harder with the same methods that gave me the success in high school which actually allowed me to study my first choice course in the first place. I wish I had a tutor who gave me the level of appreciation and understanding of the subjects at hand to bridge the gap between what is taught and the real world application of that knowledge, which is what university qualifies you for.

There is often fear mongering about how difficult university is, and I simply don't think that is the case if you have a good understanding and appreciation of the fundamentals which we are taught in high school. My belief is that there is so much more value to the content we're taught in high school beyond just the marks we gain from it, and being where I am in life now, I really wish I'd had someone guide me and enlighten me on such when I was in high school, because disregarding the difficulty of having to do it myself in my first year of university, it really made me love learning and be glad I chose my career path so much more. Learning is genuinely something fun if you lose the dread of having to understand something complicated and I wish to share that joy of learning with you!

I have received positive feedback from the people I have tutored and I will always be open to criticism from the ones who are entrusting me with their education.

As a high school student, when in class and tutored, I often found myself struggling to really engage with the content material because some of my teachers were impatient and easily irritable, so I became reluctant to ask questions. I found that my best and most liked subjects were taught by patient, kind teachers who were easy to talk to, and I strive to bring that same energy to my lessons. I pride myself on my flexibility and ability to adjust to my student's needs and preferences to make their learning experiences as comfortable and helpful as possible.

My first (free!) lesson will be spent getting an idea of the students strengths and weaknesses and devising the best possible study plan to cover all their weaknesses and solidify their strengths in a realistic timeframe. Following that lesson, we will begin lessons with a check in to see how the student has been doing since the last time I tutored them, address any new issues that may have arisen, then do problem solving, explaining any concepts that the student doesn't understand. If the student isn't sure of what they don't understand or feel like they know a good amount, then I will work with them to bolster and fortify their understanding or giving them handpicked questions which test a variety of topics to test the extent of their understanding and address any place they are lacking, preparing them with exam style questions and more advanced questions to truly fortify their understanding.

I'm armed with a drawing tablet and legible hand writing and use OneNote to record and share all questions and notes written during the lesson with the student to help them with their learning experience, and am always going to be available to help the student with any problem outside my lesson times.
