About Jessica
I am a strong advocate for education as a lifelong journey and for making learning genuinely accessible to every student, not just those who fit neatly into traditional systems. I believe education should empower students to question the world around them, think critically, and develop their own voice, rather than simply memorising information for exams.
My teaching is rooted in the belief that every learner deserves to feel seen, supported, and capable of success, especially those who may struggle within conventional classroom environments. I aim to create a space where students can build confidence, challenge themselves, and grow without fear of judgement.
Alongside tutoring, I am also a creative writer and filmmaker. I write poetry and short stories, and I have had success writing short films that have been submitted to film festivals. I have also directed several short films, which has strengthened my ability to teach storytelling, structure, and creative expression in an engaging and practical way.
This creative background informs my teaching style, helping students not only improve academically but also develop a stronger sense of voice, imagination, and clarity in their writing.

My approach to tutoring is supportive, structured, and highly personalised. My primary goal is to build confidence alongside academic skills in English Language/Literature and History. I adapt every session to the learner’s needs, and always make my own resources using SEND-informed and mental health-aware strategies. This is to ensure lessons feel safe, manageable, and effective for each student.
I aim for learners to come away from my classes feeling:
- Heard
- Positive
- Calm
I use a mix of techniques including guided practice, step-by-step modelling, exam question breakdowns, and scaffolded writing support. I also focus on active feedback and model answers, helping students understand exactly how to improve rather than just correcting mistakes. Where needed, I incorporate visual aids, simplified explanations, and structured routines to support learners with additional needs such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety, or exam stress.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although this can be adjusted to 45 minutes for younger learners or those who benefit from shorter, more focused sessions. Each lesson includes a warm-up, review, skill development, practice questions, and clear next steps for improvement.
I have over 6 years of tutoring experience supporting students across Functional Skills, GCSE, and A Level English and History. I have worked with a wide range of learners, including those requiring SEND support, and I aim to make learning accessible, engaging, and confidence-building.
My lessons are suitable for KS3, GCSE, Functional Skills, and A Level students, typically ranging from ages 11–18, as well as adult learners working towards ESL exams, Functional Skills qualifications or resits.

Jess was such a great help for my child. She was incredibly patient with her acting, not only as an excellent teacher, but also to inspire my daughter to enjoy learning again. Fía (my daughter) suffers from anxiety and dyslexia and has felt isolated in school due to an overwhelming environment that doesn't try to help students with more specific needs. Jess was so understanding of her situation; I couldn't recommend a tutor any higher than her!
Jessica has been an incredible tutor for my son. He has ADHD, and finding someone who can engage him and help him understand his lessons has not been easy but Jessica has always been great with it. She explains things in a way that makes sense to him and she keeps his needs in mind throughout the lesson. Jessica is super patience and pleasant and she creates such a calm environment for him. I would really recommend Jessica to anyone looking for an SEN English tutor
