Perfect! I have had 3 sessions with Afnan so far, and am finding her teaching style is very effective and I am seeing results very quickly!

Just some background: I took very beginner level group Arabic classes in the past, the type that has about 4-6 other students, use of a standard workbook, and meets once a week for 1-1.5 hours, for about 2-3 months. While I enjoyed those classes I found it really hard to retain what I learned in between classes. Both classes also sought to teach students MSA and a little bit of specific vocabulary in certain dialects (Masri, Levant, etc.) I enjoyed those courses but didn't feel like I could build momentum that would last afterwards. Fast forward...

I recently got clear what my learning objectives were. I want to be able to converse in Egyptian dialect Arabic and shared this with Afnan when we first started messaging.

My first session with Afnan was free and she used it to assess what was needed to set a strong foundation for me. It was clear I needed to relearn how to read Arabic without transliteration and be able to really hone in on my Masri pronunciation.

In the sessions we've had so far Afnan has woven together conversational vocabulary, learning to read letters aloud and recognize them by sight, and writing each letter correctly based on where they are in a word/sentence. The classes feel very full but she manages our time very well. The pacing, exercises she facilitates, her expert use of the video conferencing features make the learning very stimulating! I honestly feel like time flies in our sessions and am surprised when the hour is done.

Afnan is a very disciplined and also caring, patient, and creative teacher. I believe her teaching methodology and the frequency of classes we’ve agreed to try (4, 1 hour classes a week) will really help me building better memory recall and retain learning that wasn’t possible for me before. I feel very excited about what I will be able to accomplish going forward.
