About Anannya
Anannya Mahanta is an accomplished South Asian dancer
and one of the prominent aspiring exponents in the field of
Sattriya Nritya, the classical dance tradition of Assam. Born and raised in a deeply traditional cultural environment, Anannya imbibed the philosophy and aesthetics of Sattriya from an early age.
A rare confluence of intellect and artistry, she is also a Gold Medallist in Astrophysics—a testament to her multifaceted brilliance and disciplined pursuit of excellence. Her performances are marked by their spiritual depth, technical precision and emotive intensity—reflecting the rich narrative tradition of Sattriya culture.
Over the years, Anannya has presented Sattriya on some of the most prestigious national and international stages. A recipient of multiple accolades, Anannya has been honoured with the India Star Passion Award, Vrindrani Award, Forever Star India Award, the London Community Excellence Award, Namaste Kingston Success Awards and few others to mention. She is also a graded artist under Prasar Bharati, Doordarshan Kendra, India and a double scholarship holder from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Beyond performance, Anannya’s artistic vision extends to cultural propagation and education. As the former Co-founder and Managing Director of Nrityangahara, a socio-cultural organisation dedicated to the promotion of Indian classical arts, she has curated numerous workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and cultural dialogues across India—aimed at inspiring young and underprivileged learners.
Her work has been showcased in various parts of Europe including London, Cambridge, Oxford, etc. Currently based in the United Kingdom, Anannya serves as an Artistic Member of International Dance Council headquartered at UNESCO, Paris and One Dance UK and is an empanelled artist of SPICMACAY (India & UK). She continues to represent the heritage of Sattriya on the global stage, weaving the timeless ethos of devotion, discipline, and storytelling into her performances.
Her journey embodies the spirit of an artist who bridges tradition with contemporary sensibilities—upholding the sanctity of a 600-year-old classical form while inspiring new dialogues in the international arts landscape.
