At the beginning of the lesson, I take stock of the student's level on the subject concerned (if the student's 1st lesson). Then, I always suggest that the student start by telling me what he understands of the exercise and how he intends to proceed. Solving by oneself is very important: it allows the student not to rely too much on the pedagogical support that I give and to think for himself. If he encounters difficulties, I help the student by first giving him clues on how to proceed. Then if it still doesn't improve, I start showing him an example and explaining what he doesn't understand. I really like to give examples so that the student can understand the exercises in a much more concrete way. I give lessons exclusively to young students (from 1st grade to High school).
