About Aisling
I received a H1 in my leaving certificate Irish exam (and H1s in 5 other subjects). I also attended a gaelscoil and regularly spend time in the Gaeltacht with my grandparents. I am currently studying Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Sociology at Trinity, and I have a keen interest in sports, particularly athletics! In my free time I also love to practice French and art, and have spent time au pairing in France.
I understand how demanding the leaving cert can be and I want to help you as best I can!

I received a H1 in my leaving certificate and attended a gaelscoil. I offer hour long oral preparatory lessons to senior cycle students wishing to improve their Irish oral - a key component worth 40% of their leaving cert grade!
I begin my lessons with a general comhrá, prompting the student to discuss news in their life e.g. recent sporting/ music activities, which could be used as material in their exam oral. This also allows a student to become more comfortable speaking as Gaeilge, which is often the most difficult aspect of the oral for many students.
Next, I offer the student a selection of flashcards containing prompts, ranging from questions on current affairs, to education, to past times. These open-ended questions reflect the type of questions an examiner may ask, allowing the student to formulate a response suitable to their language level.
After a selection of these questions, which build the student’s vocabulary on key areas (education, family, interests etc.), I select a curriculum poem for the student to recite, as requested during the léamh na filíochta component of the Irish oral. Here, I will pay close attention to the student’s pronunciation, as this is an area where marks are easily lost.
When the student becomes more confident I will adjust the format of the lessons, offering a ‘mock’ oral at the end of the session. This mock will follow the same format as an exam condition oral; beginning with the failtiú, then léamh na filíochta, followed by the sraith pictiúr and finally the comhrá.
Throughout the lessons, I will ask the student which topics they would like to discuss during their oral exam, and work with them to build their confidence and vocabulary when introducing these topics into the comhrá.
