My ideology for teaching someone is simple. Breakdown how I learned the concept myself and try to explain it to the student the same way. As a student I know the principles and techniques one needs to have, to achieve understanding and comprehension of the subject. I also know where the student may get stuck or make mistakes in understanding and can help to avoid or fix it.
