About Fiona
I am 18 year old student who is studying an Undergraduate English Literature BA at the University of Birmingham. During my GCSE years I always struggled with time management as well as structuring my essays but after finding a system that works I was able to dramatically improve going from getting 4's and 5's to getting 7s and 8s. I further struggled with my confidence in the classroom and I want to build my student's confidence so that they can be confident with their writing and answering questions in the classroom. I want them to be comfortable asking me questions about exam papers that they may not have had the confidence to share with their teachers.

In my lessons I will work through past papers and help students work on timing for their essays by looking through A/A* answers demonstrating the key elements that are imperative for a GCSE essay. The length of the lessons will be 1 hour but I will allow students to take as much time as they need to understand the concept of the essay. I want the students to recommend what they need help with and I will work around how they like to work to create a comfortable environment, increasing their confidence as a student. I will be mainly focusing on Literature papers but I am able to work through English Language papers. I am experienced with teaching younger children how to read as I joined volunteering programmes at my previous school. My lessons are for 14-16 year olds; GCSE ages.
