About Ava

My name is Ava, and I am a junior at Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology and Public Health, with a minor in Human-Computer Interaction. My approach as a tutor

Hi! I'm Ava, a premed student who also builds apps. I have ADHD, so I know firsthand that "just focus harder" isn't real advice. My teaching is built around working with different brains instead of against them: visual breakdowns and lots of "why does this matter" before "here's how you do it."

Teaching method and techniques

I break big topics into small, concrete wins. For STEM subjects, I use analogies and real-world examples before diving into formulas, then loop back to reinforce. For college applications, I focus on finding your authentic story rather than what I think sounds impressive. For app design, I teach through building — you'll have a working prototype within a few sessions, not just theory. I use active recall, spaced repetition, and frequent check-ins ("teach it back to me") so you're never just passively listening.

A typical lesson

We start with a 5-minute check-in on what's clicking and what's not. Then a focused teaching block (20–25 min) on one specific skill or concept — no multitasking, no info-dumping. We follow with hands-on practice: problems, a coding challenge, or application essay work, where I coach in real time. We close with a quick recap and a tiny, doable task for next time, so momentum carries over between sessions.

What sets me apart

I've lived the ADHD-and-high-achiever combo, so I don't just teach content — I teach systems for staying organized, motivated, and confident under pressure. I bring real industry experience (as a Roblox intern) into app design lessons, and real, recent admissions experience into college app coaching. My goal isn't just to get you the right answer; it's to help you believe you're capable of getting there yourself.

Who this is for

Middle School, High school and early college students studying STEM, English and social science subjects, students building college applications who want help with essays, strategy, and standing out authentically; and aspiring developers who want to learn app design/coding through real projects.

About my lessons

My lessons are personalized, high-energy, and judgment-free. Whether we're tackling AP Chemistry, drafting a personal statement, or building your first app, I meet you where you are and break things into steps that actually stick.
