I am an experienced Oxford graduate tutor with years of experience teaching sciences and maths from KS2 to A-level. I have an in-depth knowledge of all UK exam boards, including AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC and CCEA.
100% of my students are now working to an 8/9 level at A-level.
I ensure students gain knowledge of what they need to do, as well as the confidence and experience to apply knowledge broadly. Overall, this translates into high-scoring exam scripts and admissions success.
I have experience tutoring both online and in-person at a prestigious academy in Oxford. I can tutor chemistry, mathematics, biology and physics from KS2 to A-level. I also offer classes in Olympiad prep, as well as PAT, MAT, STEP, BMAT and UCAT admissions help.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed my interest in private tutoring during my time as a student at Oxford University. I was always passionate about my field of study and found great joy in trying to get my head around complex concepts. It was during this time that I realized my aptitude for teaching and decided to pursue private tutoring as a way to share my knowledge and help students excel academically.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialise in preparing students for 11+ and 13+ common entrance exams and admission processes. I particularly enjoy discussing topics related to critical thinking, problem-solving, and exam strategies with my students. These are essential skills that not only help them excel in exams but also in their overall academic journey. While I'm equally committed to all subjects, I might find certain topics less engaging; however, my primary goal is to ensure that my students are enthusiastic about the subjects they are studying.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I've been fortunate to have had some exceptional teachers who inspired me throughout my academic journey. One particular teacher at Oxford stands out as a role model. Their passion for teaching and dedication to helping students achieve their best left a profound impact on me and reinforced my commitment to becoming an effective educator.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

The qualities required to be a good tutor, in my opinion, include patience, adaptability, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of the subject matter. Patience is crucial when working with students of varying abilities, and adaptability ensures that I can tailor my teaching methods to suit each student's unique learning style. Effective communication helps convey complex concepts, and a strong grasp of the subject matter builds credibility and confidence in my students.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One valuable anecdote from my school days relates to a challenging math problem I encountered. At first, it seemed insurmountable, but with the guidance of a dedicated teacher, I not only solved it but also developed a newfound appreciation for the subject. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance and mentorship in education.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

In my subject, one of the challenges I often encounter is helping students overcome test anxiety. Many students feel pressure when preparing for competitive exams, and I work closely with them to build confidence and develop effective strategies for managing stress during exams.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My particular passion lies in teaching and guiding students to reach their full potential. I find immense satisfaction in witnessing their growth and success. While my primary focus is on education, I also have a deep love for my subject, which fuels my enthusiasm for teaching it.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

What makes me a Superprof, aside from answering these questions with a sense of humor, is my dedication to providing high-quality, personalised tutoring services. I am committed to helping my students achieve their academic goals and fostering a love for learning. My experience, passion, and commitment set me apart as a Superprof in the world of private tutoring.
