About Sofia

Tutoring is almost a form of revision for me, as it helps me revisit techniques or even books that I have not touched since GCSE level. As a student, tutoring is the most beneficial way to earn money, as it challenges me to be organised, but also keeps me focused on my subject. I have so much experience in helping my little sister and her friends with their English GCSE work and at some points have practically written their essays, that tutoring English is like second nature to me. Tutoring is my preferred job role at the current moment as it provides me with comfort during hectic uni life and also joy at being able to share my knowledge on English with others.

About the lesson

As an English Language and Literature student at the University of Nottingham, tutoring others on the subject is very rewarding. It helps refresh my interest in the subject, whilst helping my student to see English through a new lens. Studying English as a core subject for your GCSE’s when it is not your strong suit can feel like a burden, and with such a rigid curriculum there is sometimes no room for creativity or free thinking. However, through tutoring with me, regardless of interest or disinterest in English, you will see an improvement in literacy within all essay writing subjects. I slightly tailor my tutoring methods depending on the student. For instance, some prefer a more structured approach of annotation and then essay writing, whereas others need time to debate and discuss ideas. I will be working on a student timetable, but I am completely free on Wednesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 9am-5pm.
