About Alastair
My name is Alastair, and I am an experienced teacher and coach with a strong background in supporting children to achieve their potential. I hold a degree in Sport Science, and my work as both a teacher and private coach has given me valuable skills in motivating, guiding and encouraging young learners. I am also a dedicated tutor for the 7+ and 11+ exams, focusing on creating lessons that build confidence as well as knowledge. I provide structured, engaging lessons that focus on building the core skills needed for success in the 7+ and 11+ exams, including maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. My teaching style is supportive and encouraging, helping children feel confident while stretching their ability through carefully chosen practice questions and exam-style tasks. A typical lesson lasts around one hour and balances explanation, guided practice, and independent problem-solving. I also provide short activities to strengthen memory, improve exam technique, and develop critical thinking. Each lesson is tailored to the individual child’s strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring that progress feels both achievable and rewarding. I am an experienced teacher and coach with a degree in Sport Science, and I bring both discipline and motivation into my teaching. My lessons are designed for primary school children preparing for 7+ and 11+ entrance exams, whether they need a confidence boost, targeted support in specific subjects, or full preparation for the exams.
