About Helen
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was 8 yrs old. I have been so lucky to have lived my dream. Teaching is not a job for me but rather a calling…. Why I am here on this earth. I have taught for the Toronto District school board for almost 30 yrs. As a retiree, I continue to meet and help students online as a tutor. I can’t imagine my life without teaching and sharing. The most important thing I can do for my students is set them up for success. I meet them where they are and take them to the next level. Let me do that for you!

As a French teacher, there are methodologies specific to second language learning. Students always start by developing listening skills, then speaking, next reading and last writing. Also every lesson starts with routine greetings and personal questions which help build confidence. Next is oral review from previous sessions. Oral (listening and speaking) presentation of new materials comes after. Written activities follow up new material. Lastly is a fun game/activity to put into practice what has been learned. I feel what sets me apart is the way I make connections with my students. It is important to make students feel ‘seen’ and ‘heard’. When we share with each other a bit about ourselves we show our respect for each other and get to know each other. This is very important for students as they learn to see how much I care and respect them and the way they learn. They trust me and that is crucial for success. I set my students up for success.
