About Tia
Hi I’m Tia, I’m a young energetic outgoing person who has always had a huge passion for English and later for teaching which came as a surprise to me at first. As I have 4 younger siblings at different ages who I have helped with several subjects including English I discovered this patient/utterly tranquil side of myself that mostly comes out when I’m teaching. And I think it’s wonderful when a breakthrough happens and they suddenly understand as usually the only reason they are frustrated is if they think they lack the compression for it which is never true! Tutoring just gives that time to truly centre in on that individual’s needs in a quiet safe environment.

My lessons will take a very communicative approach. First I will first ask parent and student both what are the strengths/weaknesses individually. Then from that I will decide what to tackle first, gathering relevant material or assigning books to help broaden their knowledge. Allowing them to try a short practise question afterwards to gauge what their personal level is. I am used to helping children with autism and dyslexia especially so will speak calmly and patiently with my explanations/feedback and learn the way they best like to learn. Whether it includes primarily images, verbal communication, written communication or a healthy balance of all of the above. When I know their learning style I will draft lesson plans to cater that to help tackle their weaknesses in the English subject. I think being calm is one of the most important things with tutoring otherwise they will not respond but also being firm when it is necessary.
