My name is Matt and I'm a certified teacher in the US. I have taught courses including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Statistics and have been formally evaluated into the top category of "Highly Effective Teacher".
I have been a Teaching Fellow at the current #1 top public high school in the US (BASIS), have professional experience as a "Math Interventionist" (identifying & addressing gaps in foundational math knowledge), and have tutored top-tier public research university level coursework (The University of Arizona).
I am originally from Los Angeles, California and studied at The University of Arizona, University of Southern California, and California Institute of Integral Studies (formerly the Academy of Asian Studies). My hobbies include cooking, playing guitar, and macrophotography.

My tutoring is geared towards supporting students in 6-12th grade with an emphasis on Middle School Math (6-8th), Algebra 1, and Algebra 2.
During the school year the focus is generally on GPA improvement, while during the summer the main focus is learning gap diagnostics and preparation for future coursework.
I emphasize not only teaching the content-at-hand with clarity, but doing so with an eye both on the "past" and "future" of a student's math career (i.e., making sure necessary prerequisites [from previous levels] are mastered, and teaching content with consideration of preparation for future courses, exams, and college).
I think at its best, math education is seamless - from one topic to the next, and one grade to the next - and that is my goal.
