About Ariane

I'm a current music teacher for beginner levels and I have had success in teaching young kids and adults just to understand the basics without paying too much. I love teaching the piano as a hobby and I will help you learn new songs. I will also be there as you advance. I teach the correct way from the beginning but because I a patient and kind and love piano so much I won't ever get annoyed with you. All piano players (even Mozart) started at the very very beginning and I think it's never too late to start. Don't feel embarrassed by the fact that you are an adult and want to learn. Each lesson I will repeat everything until it sits, and each lesson you will learn something new, practice and you will see how you progress. I'm here to make it fun and educational. With children I like to incorporate something else like conversing in Afrikaans with them (to help improve that) or reading abilities, as well as pronunciation etc. So why not book a lesson with me and we can see how it goes from there!!

For Piano and for music reading I like to incorporate different activities and warm ups. I also like to teach the students how to properly play piano with the correct hand position and posture. I don't like to start with little things that you later need to delearn in order to relearn the correct methods and jump right into the proper terms and way. I am very patient and will repeat with every lesson the same things and add new things, until everything is stuck. I understand that Piano and music reading is just a hobby and therefore I like to have a lot of fun teaching it.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I was about 7 years old when I started developing a passion for music, Dancing, Singing and playing piano. I was unable to continue piano after I turned 8 but when I was 15 I started again and I haven't stopped. Whenever I play the piano I get transported into a new world where I understand the composer and what he/she was feeling. I can feel the music speaking to me and it definitely determines my mood for the rest of the day.
  • Is there a particular type of music or an artist that you could happily listen to on a loop?

It depends on my mood and what I feel like listening to. I enjoy the composer Yann Tiersenn the most at the moment but it will probably change in a few days. I do like "Stay"_Rihanna and "Rolling in the Deep"_Adele and also "Somewhere only we know"_Lily Allen and Kaene. I literally just depends on my mood and what I enjoy most at the moment!
  • Explain to us the most difficult or 'riveting' lesson you could personally give to one of your students.

The first lesson is always the hardest. No matter the future and the lessons to follow. But having to hear everything for the first time and having to read music for the first time is always the most difficult. But I love it when I can inspire my students to gain passion because that is when I get them to give it all they have. I start teaching the feeling of music from the first lesson as this plays a major role in what makes music poetry for the soul or just a simple tune in the background. I want students to feel the music rather than just to learn it.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The instrument you don't want to play. I really think that you have a talent for the instrument you play and a talent can be created through a need and a want to play the instrument. Of course some instruments are a lot harder but if you want to play it you will master it.
  • What are your keys to success (aside from do re mi fa sol ...)?

Practice, practice, practice. Find a something to learn on your own, ask questions ask for help and again practice, practice, practice, and warm ups.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting on a night out, and explain why.

Yann Tiersann as he composes music that really speaks to me and I want to know why he composed them. Andre Rieu as he was my Grandmother's favourite and I would love to meet her hero. Twenty One Pilots as the music carries many different messages and I want to know if the music they make portrays their personalities on not, (hope it does).
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I had a song that I had such a mental block for I could not get it. And every day I tried, (10 mins each day) and suddenly I tried a different technique and bang I got it. Perseverance and courage to continue is the best medicine.
Also when I was preparing for an Eistedfod I practiced a song that sounded horrible but when I got there, sat down and looked at the judges I told myself that this is for you and not for them. I reminded myself that everyone here started at beginner level and every one here is going to judge me, so I shouldn't have to and I ended up getting a Diploma (which is higher than gold). That day I proved to myself that it is my passion, hobby and enjoyment and that I shouldn't let silly things like Eistedfods get in the way or take away my passion from me.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I love to relate to my students. I adapt to their needs and interests and I like to make them laugh and enjoy their lesson. Most of my students are beginners and I know that they are not planning on becoming world renown musicians at places like Juliard but would like to walk to the piano and play something they like. I make a lot of jokes and motivate through rewards so that they feel like coming back every time. They need to enjoy it else they will lose their passion and I will break down their motivation. Piano is my passion and I want to share it with others through the art of teaching.
