About Martha
As well as having over seven years of teaching experience, I am an avid language-learner myself. I have learned Georgian and am in the process of learning Italian - I do this not only because I love languages, but because as a teacher I never want to lose touch with that feeling of struggle and intimidation you can feel as a language student. Constantly learning myself means I am always thinking about the best techniques for language teaching. I have a wealth of lived experience that I bring to my teaching and my lessons - I am a teacher, a musician, and an artist.

Having studied languages at Oxford University, I received my PGCE from Cambridge University in 2014. I taught for seven years in secondary schools both in London and abroad. I was the Head of Modern Foreign Languages during my time at the British International School of Tbilisi. I can teach all ages but I have most experience with secondary school students, and I have a particular passion for helping students prepare for exams, especially GCSEs. My strength as a teacher has always been my ability to form good relationships with my students - I am a warm and empathetic person, and I like my lessons to be relaxed and dynamic. Having worked for years in secondary schools, I know how intimidating and difficult learning a language can be for many students, and I pride myself on making the subject enjoyable and accessible. Preparing for exams is as much about strategy as subject knowledge. If you are feeling overwhelmed about how to start getting ready for exam season, then I am the tutor for you! A standard lesson lasts for 50 minutes, although this can be adapted according to what you need.
