About Zainab

Chemistry has a reputation as a hard class and difficult science to master as it is a vast discipline. But some strategies make it easier to learn, such as: • Study to learn with the help of visual aids such as PowerPoint presentations, mind maps, illustrations, and diagrams for better understanding. • Use different study tools such as book notes, past papers, and textbooks. • Practice solving past papers to get an idea of the exam paper. I would help you with all these possible means and many more. First, we focus on gaining an understanding of fundamental chemistry. As you master the fundamentals of chemistry and gain an understanding of the concepts, you'll find it much easier to memorize everything else. Even though it is challenging, chemistry is worthwhile, useful, and possible to master. You may need to learn new study skills and change the way you organize your time, but anyone with the will to learn chemistry can do so.

Find out more about Zainab

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in chemistry during my undergraduate studies, where I became fascinated by understanding chemical processes and their real-world applications. My interest in private tutoring began about four years ago when I started helping students with chemistry and mathematics. I found great satisfaction in simplifying complex concepts and supporting students in achieving their academic goals, which motivated me to continue tutoring professionally.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Chemistry because I am passionate about understanding how matter behaves and how chemical principles explain everyday phenomena. I particularly enjoy discussing organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, chemical bonding, spectroscopy, and analytical chemistry, as these topics encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. I also enjoy helping students connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications in medicine, industry, and environmental science. While I teach all areas of chemistry, I find purely memorization-based topics less engaging than those that involve conceptual understanding and scientific reasoning.
  • Did you have any role models or a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I was inspired by several of my chemistry teachers during my academic journey. Their enthusiasm for science, ability to explain complex concepts clearly, and dedication to student success motivated me to pursue chemistry more deeply. They showed me that a great teacher not only imparts knowledge but also inspires curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. These qualities continue to influence my own teaching approach today.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor should be patient, knowledgeable, and able to explain concepts clearly. They should adapt their teaching style to each student's needs, encourage questions, and create a supportive learning environment that builds confidence and academic success.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my undergraduate studies, I initially found organic reaction mechanisms challenging. A professor helped me understand them by focusing on electron movement step by step rather than memorization. This approach made chemistry much clearer and more logical for me, and I now use the same method with my students to help them grasp difficult concepts more easily.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the main challenges in chemistry is helping students move beyond rote memorization and develop a true conceptual understanding, especially in topics like organic mechanisms and equilibrium. Students often find these areas abstract and difficult to visualize. Another challenge is addressing gaps in foundational knowledge, which can make advanced topics harder to grasp. My approach is to break concepts into simple steps and use real-life examples to make chemistry more relatable and easier to understand.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My main passion is teaching chemistry, especially helping students understand complex concepts in a simple and meaningful way. I enjoy making abstract ideas more logical and relatable, and seeing students gain confidence as they improve. I am also passionate about contributing to science education and inspiring students to appreciate how chemistry connects to real-life applications.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

What makes me a Superprof is my strong subject expertise in chemistry combined with four years of tutoring experience and a student-centered teaching approach. I focus on simplifying complex concepts, encouraging critical thinking, and adapting my methods to each learner’s needs. My goal is not just to improve grades, but to build real understanding and long-term confidence in the subject.
