About Carissa
28 years of teaching grade 7 through post-secondary has not only kept me young, but has allowed me to be a reflective practitioner where I can continuously grow professionally, academically, and personally. My knowledge. experience, and enthusiasm of the subject matter fosters positive student and teacher rapport, which motivates academic excellence in a student-centered environment. I have experience teaching in the classroom, in online distance learning and, in writing labs. I have also developed writing curriculum, and facilitated various workshops for both students and faculty.. It is important to start with what we know as we learn to navigate in and out of various discourse communities. A poet once said "We are all a part of what we know." As your facilitator, I will introduce and model various strategies, that best meet your learning needs, to develop your confidence in the subject matter, to maximize a positive learning experience and to optimize your success across disciplines.
