• When did you develop an interest in your subject and in private tutoring?

  I developed an interest in the English language many years ago, working in a restaurant and realizing that there are many people who cannot speak fluently, both customers and staff. Teaching privately seemed like a good option to helping them with their language difficulties.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I enjoy teaching English vocabulary, pronunciation and especially grammar. I enjoy teaching individuals about sentence structures and especially tenses.

• Did you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you?

  My role model teacher would be my grade 6 teacher, Mr Peas. He was kind, happy yet firm in his teachings.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  Qualities to be a good tutor - A deep understanding of the subject matter is crucial. Communication skills must be effective, clear and engaging with students. Patience - is necessary to help students understand concepts without feeling pressured or rushed. Motivation and encouragement to the student is important to motivate them. Reliability and consistency helps build trust. Adaptability as students learn differently and a good tutor can adapt their teaching style to suit each student. Maintaining a professional attitude, including punctuality and preparedness.

• Could you share an anecdote related to your subject or your student days?

  Spreading peanut butter over a cracker reminds me of how students need to approach their studies - methodically and patiently, covering each topic thoroughly. A moment of clarity and inspiration.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this particular subject, or something completely different?

  I simply love teaching as I feel blessed to have a warmth about me when I'm explaining something. I can explain something repeatedly without getting impatient.
