About Anika
I’m a TEFL-certified online English tutor with degrees in Drama, Sociology, and Global Studies, and extensive experience across professional and creative industries. As a child of migrants in New Zealand, I understand the challenges of adapting to a new culture and language, and I’m passionate about helping students build fluency, confidence, and practical communication skills. I work primarily with teens and adults, tailoring lessons to each student using structured practice, real-life scenarios, multimedia resources, and conversation. My goal is to make learning English engaging, empowering, and meaningful—whether for study, work, or everyday life.

My approach to tutoring is tailored to each student’s needs, ensuring they first build a solid foundation in English. From there, I focus on developing literacy and fluency through practical application and confidence-building exercises. Lessons incorporate a mix of games, real-life scenarios, multimedia resources, and short tests to keep learning engaging and effective.
A typical lesson lasts around 60 minutes, starting with 15 minutes of revision, followed by 10 minutes focused on teaching new concepts. This is followed by 20 minutes of practice, and the final 15 minutes are dedicated to conversation, building context and vocabulary around topics that interest the student. I provide homework after each lesson and am available for email support throughout the week to reinforce learning.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Sociology from the University of Auckland, a Trinity College Speech and Drama Performance ATCL with Distinction, and a Qualifi Level 5 Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). My background spans performance, speech, and drama, as well as extensive professional experience across the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, including roles in business consultancy, administration, and stage management. This diverse experience allows me to bring practical communication skills, confidence-building techniques, and a global perspective to my English lessons.
I primarily work with teens and adults, helping learners at all levels—from beginners to advanced—to build confidence, fluency, and practical communication skills. While my experience and teaching style are particularly suited to young adults and adults, I am also capable of teaching children.
