About Annie
Hi! I'm Annie, a student of English and Related Literature from the University of York. I'm a dedicated tutor of English, with experience and successful results based on students' achievements. I'm an avid language learner myself, with fluency in Spanish, and I understand language learning from a student's perspective. My degree specialises in contemporary writing, and I place an emphasis on modern media in my own lessons, engaging the students and encouraging them to form and express opinions on their own interests and passions. I am a creative tutor and use interactive, conversation-based methods to help students achieve their goals, whether in education, for work, or any other reason. I have an internationally accredited TEFL qualification, and am dedicated to teaching English in a way which is engaging, fun and productive. I personalise my lessons according to the student's individual motivations and needs, planning lessons based on the following information, which I find out in a free initial consultation session:
- The student's current English level (A1, A2, B1, B2 or C1 if known, or more broadly beginner, intermediate or advanced)
- The student's specific motivations for wanting English tutoring (e.g. or education, for a specific entrance exam, for work/business, or for any other reasons)
- Any specific areas in which the student wants tutoring (e.g. conversation, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, business English, or any other particular area)*
*While I personalise lessons to focus on particular goals and needs, my lessons are always heavily conversation and speaking based. Through experience, I have found that conversation-based lessons achieve the best results and fluency levels. I keep my lessons engaging through interactive activities, and by including contemporary media. I encourage students to express opinions and to initiate discussion on specific topics which interest them.
The basic framework for my lessons is the PPP structure, proven successful in helping students achieve the best results. However, I place a particular higher emphasis on practice. This is because use of English is essential in developing familiarity and confidence with the language, and I believe that mistakes and feedback are important for improvement and development.
I aim for my students to come out of each lesson feeling that they have learnt something valuable, and with a keen desire to continue.
