About McKaela
Hi there! Welcome to my class. It's great to see you!
Some info about me: I obtained a Bachelor of Arts, with a Major in English and a Minor in History - Graduated with Honours. I, then, went on to obtain a Bachelor of Education to fulfill my dream of becoming an educator. I have had two years of practice in several Secondary Schools in Brampton, Mississauga, and Hamilton. I have taught everything from grade 9 to grade 12 English and every class reassures me that this is the profession I am meant to be in. Students add joy, laughter, fun, and inspiration to my life. I learn as much from them as they do from me, it's truly a great system.
I also have a passion for fitness, mental wellbeing, and all areas of overall health. I believe a student should have balance in their life between school and play, and mental health should always come first!

I believe in placing the student at the centre of their learning and involving choice-based ways of demonstrating knowledge so that the student can produce work that they can be proud of! I also believe in invoking a sense of wonder, curiosity and imagination in our education as that is the most effective way to learn.
Therefore, my lessons will start with a casual conversation to understand the strengths, interests and needs of the student. From there, I will carefully craft units, lessons, and activities using a Backward Design model to ensure that we are reaching an achievable goal. Assessments will also be part of the learning program, but will not be the main focus as we are striving for improvement of a skill, rather than rote memorization.
