About Milena

I am a communications, journalism, and training professional, and that experience deeply shapes the way I teach Spanish. My work has never been limited to using language correctly; it has also been about understanding how to build a message so that another person truly understands it, remembers it, and receives it in the way we intend.

That is why, as a tutor, I do not focus only on teaching students how to speak Spanish. I teach them how to communicate in Spanish.

For me, learning grammar, expanding vocabulary, and improving pronunciation are essential, but they are not enough.
Real communication happens when we learn how to bring all of those elements together to express an idea with clarity, purpose, naturalness, and confidence.

I want my students to know not only which words to use, but how to use them to achieve the effect they want: to explain, connect, persuade, express an emotion, defend an opinion, tell a story, or participate confidently in a professional or social conversation.

My experience in journalism, writing, interviewing, editing, research, literacy education, and training has taught me how to adapt language to different people and contexts. I have worked on transforming complex information into clear and accessible messages, and I consider that one of my greatest strengths as a tutor: helping students develop Spanish that can be sophisticated and professional while still remaining clear, natural, and easy to understand.

Because communicating well does not mean using the most complicated words. It means knowing how to choose the right words for the right person, moment, and purpose.

I want my students to be able to speak with precision when the context requires it, but also with simplicity when needed. I want them to feel comfortable in professional, academic, and social environments, while also being understood by people from different educational and cultural backgrounds.

My goal is for each student to develop true communicative competence: to understand, organize their ideas, and express them in Spanish in a way that preserves their personality, intelligence, and intention.

More than teaching a language, I want to teach my students how to use Spanish as a tool to connect with other people and make sure their ideas are received in the way they truly intend.

My lessons are designed to make Spanish a real communication tool, not a list of rules you have to memorize.

Each session will be engaging, dynamic, and personalized according to your level, personality, interests, and goals. We will use conversations, everyday situations, music, films, news, short stories, readings, audio, images, memory and association games, and other resources that will encourage your mind to think, connect ideas, and most importantly, speak in Spanish.

My background in communications, journalism, writing, literacy education, and training allows me to approach language not only through words, but also through the way we organize and express our thoughts. That is why you will not learn vocabulary or grammar in isolation. We will first identify what you already know, introduce new expressions and structures, and gradually bring them into real conversations and everyday situations.

Grammar will always be part of the learning process, but often you will use it without feeling as though you are studying a rule. As you use Spanish to talk about your experiences, opinions, interests, emotions, and goals, grammatical structures begin to repeat themselves, make sense, and naturally become part of the way you communicate.

We will also work on listening comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, and confidence. As you progress, you will move from simple conversations to expressing more complex opinions, telling stories, participating in professional and social conversations, preparing for interviews, presentations or speeches, and communicating your ideas with greater clarity.

My goal is for you to internalize Spanish—not as something you constantly have to translate in your mind, but as another way to express what you already think and feel.

You should be able to sound just as interesting, intelligent, and articulate in Spanish as you do in your native language.

Little by little, Spanish will stop feeling like something you are studying and start feeling like another voice that truly belongs to you.
