About Juan Carlos
I am a professional artist and educator with 25 years of creative and expressive movement experience. Former and distinguished professor of dance and undergraduate education at the University of Utah. Researcher, motivator and co-founder and owner of Minding Motion. Co-founder of Minding Motion for Graceful Aging, Founder and Co-director of Grey Matters: Dance for Parkinson's Utah, Outreach Director at Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Former Professor at the University of Utah, Professional Artist, MFA University of Utah, BS Utah State University.

My teaching methodology is individualized and student-centered learning. Through my years as a distinguished professor in general education, global engagement and student centered education I have been able to hone in the understanding of multiple intelligence, emotional intelligence, active and integrated learning, the latest teaching strategies and theories for success in the classroom. I also come with a good understanding and practice in human development and cognitive behaviors. Meeting the student where he or she is essential for the success and understanding of the material. I also believe in the daily application of information going beyond memorization and standardized tests. I believe in creativity and diverse learning capacities in the classroom where students engage with the material, participate in the class and collaborate with each other. I don't expect students simply to listen and memorize; instead, I encourage intention and attention through the learning process, analysis of information and application of concepts as it relates to real-world situations.
