Can I exceed the word limit when it says a minimum of 40 words, or shouldn't I exceed it?
Senali, I’ll give you a general guideline that applies for most K-12 students and undergraduate university students in the U.S. However, you should always check with your own instructor (or publication), because leeway varies from one to another. Always write the minimum number of words that you’re supposed to. You typically lose some credit if you don’t. In general, don’t write more than 10% more words than you’re supposed to unless your instructor has indicated it’s okay to do so because you might lose points for that as well. In your example, that would be 40+4=44 words. Don’t include things like the heading (=your name, the date, the name of the class, and the instructor’s name) and the title of the assignment in your word count unless you’re told to do so. Enjoy your assignments!

Can you exceed the word limit?
What happens if you go under the word limit on a university essay?
If my college essay prompt says a minimum of 500 words, how long should my essay be? Is 1000-1500 words acceptable?
I actually agree with both the previous answers to some extent. Please check exam criterior if that appies to you…
A word limit in an exam is usually there to stop minamilistic answers ,and ensure that candidates are capable of extended discourse.
However, Expressing your ideas succinctly and accuratly is also being tested.
Don’t give the impession that you are struggling to find something to say, yet, you should also be able to express ideas without waffling . A fine balence .
You can use more than forty words. This means don’t use fewer than forty. Probably the reader wouldn’t, however, want to read tons more words, like 250 or more.
I looks as though your essay should not be LESS than 40 words. The MAXIMUM limit is not specified, so I assume you can write as many word as you like, as long as it’s more than 40. Good luck, my friend!
Does an online MBA have any value? What are the best institutes from where we can do online MBA courses in India?
Absolutely! I had my doubts about the value of an online MBA, but let me share my experience—it can be a game-changer. And if you're looking for authenticity, I can vouch for the fact that Chitkara University offers a stellar online MBA program.
I decided to take the plunge into online education, and Chitkara University caught my eye. Here's why it's been a standout choice for me:
• Real Skills for the Real World: The program isn't just about theory; it's about learning practical skills that actually matter. In a world that's changing rapidly, having skills that you can apply immediately is pric
I wrote about 380 words for my IELTS writing section 2. All the points were definitely relevant. Will there be a penalty for exceeding the word limit?
What is the word limit?
Is it all right if my scholarship essay exceeded the word limit especially the admissions don’t specify exactly the word count do use the word “about” (about 200 words)?
If my word count falls short, is that really bad?
I'm way above the word limit in an important essay. What do I do?
It’s asking for a minimum of 40 words but no maximum has been set. You might want to find out about all the parameters relating to whatever assignment or project you’re working on.
I think you should demonstrate that you exceed the minimum requirement of typing 40 WPM. Doing do could give you an edge over other applicants.
What is the easiest way to make sure that I write the answer within the word limit in an exam?
My mom has been teaching in the Delhi University for the past 17 years and here is what she told me when I had a similar doubt-
"No teacher goes to the length of actually counting the words in a word-limited question."
What she meant was a teacher basically ends up checking a lot of papers and thus it becomes unfeasible for him/her to count the words in answer. So why put the word limit at all? To avoid the writing of unnecessary information in the answer.
Only when you have exceeded the word limit excessively will a teacher actually check the word count. Word limits are imposed to see if you ca
Is it bad if I exceed by 51 words over the word limit of 500 words in an essay?
Why are you writing? Is 500 words a limit? If so, it may be an issue. Other than that:
use as many words as necessary to communicate what you need to say.
edit ruthlessly. Eliminate words that do not contribute. Shorten sentences. Make every word count.
Communicate then count. Not the other way around.
I have written article for national magazines that had hard word count requirements. But in general, it’s not that big a deal.
Is it bad if I exceed by 51 words over the word limit of 500 words in an essay?
It may or may not be, depending on the subject and the reader (editor. During many years as a news writer, I struggled with that problem from time to time, but then another read-through usually enabled me to edit down to the ‘proper’ word length. You should learn to do the same.

I had my English paper today of O levels and I exceeded the word limit by 50-80 words. Will my marks be detected or will I end up with a bad grade just because of word limit?
You don't say what the word limit is. If it's, say, 4000 words, then you probably wouldn't be penalised by exceeding it by 50–80 words (only about 2%). But 80 words on 1000 words would be 8%, and you might well lose some marks for doing that.
What does the rubric (the instructions) say?
I had my English paper today of O levels and I exceeded the word limit by 50-80 words. Will my marks be detected or will I end up with a bad grade just because of word limit?
It's possible that exceeding the word limit in your English paper could result in a lower grade, as adhering to word limits is often a requirement for academic writing. However, the specific impact on your grade will depend on a number of factors, including the severity of the excess, the overall quality of your writing, and the grading criteria used by your teacher or examiner.
If the word limit was a strict requirement for the assignment and you significantly exceeded it, you may lose points or receive a lower grade as a result. However, if your writing was strong and well-organized despite t
I had my English paper today of O levels and I exceeded the word limit by 50-80 words. Will my marks be detected or will I end up with a bad grade just because of word limit?
It's difficult to say for sure how your exam paper will be graded, as it ultimately depends on the specific guidelines and policies of your exam board or institution. However, exceeding the word limit by 50-80 words is generally not a significant deviation and may not necessarily result in a bad grade.
That being said, word limits are typically put in place for a reason, such as to ensure that students can effectively and concisely communicate their ideas within a given timeframe. Exceeding the limit may indicate that you struggled with prioritizing or editing your work, which could potentially
