About Sophia
Sophia Kummer, born in Arnsberg in 2001, first began playing the cello at the age of five at the Hochsauerlandkreis Music School. Since the summer of 2020, she has been studying for a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, Aachen campus, under the tutelage of Prof. Hans-Christian Schweiker. Her studies have been enriched by masterclasses with Prof. Wenn-Sinn Yang, Prof. Troels Svane, Prof. Maria Kliegel, Prof. Vashti Hunter, and Prof. Marie-Elisabeth Hecker. Sophia also gained early experience in chamber music, performing with her two siblings, a newly formed piano trio at the university, and a clarinet trio, with which she won first prize at the "Kammer?Musik!" chamber music competition of the Young German Philharmonic. She has participated in chamber music masterclasses as part of the Budapest Festival Academy and the International Summer Academy for Chamber Music. Since January 2023, Sophia Kummer has been supported by Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Cologne e.V., where she has the opportunity to further pursue her passion for chamber music. She is also a scholarship recipient of the Cusanuswerk and, since summer 2023, has been studying for a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance under Prof. Claudia Kunz-Eisenlohr. Since November 2023, she has been a member of the German National Youth Choir.

My teaching experience isn't solely based on my own private lessons. My year of voluntary service in the cultural sector at the Hochsauerlandkreis Music School, in particular, provided me with a wealth of pedagogical knowledge, ranging from lesson planning and observation to the teaching of various teaching methods and the development of creative projects. I was able to expand and refine this knowledge during my university studies. My students' enjoyment and motivation in playing the cello are very important to me. Therefore, it's crucial for me to address the needs and wishes of my students and tailor the lessons accordingly. Whether you or your child are starting from scratch or returning to playing an instrument – the focus is always on the joy of making music.
