About Poppy
With over 11 years of tutoring experience and a BSc in Mathematics for Data Science, I’ve learned that maths is less about memorisation and more about mindset. I work with middle school students who are building their foundations in algebra. My lessons focus on linear equations, polynomial expressions, and basic functions — the cornerstones of future success. I use puzzles, visuals, and relatable examples to make these ideas easier to understand. My teaching style is hands-on and conversational, not rigid or intimidating. I’ve helped many students overcome maths anxiety by creating a calm, supportive learning space. Each session starts small and builds momentum through clear, logical steps. I encourage students to ask questions, make mistakes, and explore. Over time, they begin to see patterns and connections on their own. Watching confidence grow is my favourite part of tutoring. Algebra can absolutely be fun, and I love showing students why.

My teaching philosophy centres on the idea that maths is most powerful when it connects to life. I focus on helping students use mathematical reasoning to understand money, budgeting, and investment. Financial mathematics and interest calculations form a key part of my lessons. I guide students in exploring how numbers affect saving, spending, and long-term planning. My approach mixes clear explanations with interactive problem-solving. For coders and Olympiad aspirants, I add logic puzzles and real-world scenarios that build both mathematical and computational thinking. I encourage students to question, experiment, and explain their reasoning. Every session includes time for reflection and discussion. I use simple models to show how maths supports smarter financial choices. With regular practice, students start to see patterns that boost both skill and confidence. Mistakes are treated as learning opportunities, not failures. By the end, learners feel equipped to use maths in academics, coding, and everyday decisions. Maths becomes a life skill, not just a subject.
