About Ryan

I have achieved 80% overall for my degree in Mathematics and a H1 in Mathematics at Leaving Certificate.

I have four years of experience in giving grinds, and I have also acted as a teaching assistant for Trinity College Dublin. This involved both giving college tutorials and grading assignments which has exposed me to both how student learn, and what mistakes crop up time and time again. I am hoping to continue my study at the University of Cambridge, hence why I can only offer them online this year.

I have also completed a module in Mathematics Education which allowed me to explore and critique aspects of the Irish Leaving Certificate curriculum and more general mathematical pedagogy. As part of this, I wrote two essays comprising of over 10,000 words for which I received 92%.

Outside of mathematics, I have a keen interest in Art and the beautiful patterns which crop up therein as seen in MC Escher's works. I have also been involved with my college's Mathematical Society as both their Secretary and Public Relations Officer.

About the lesson

My lessons are typically 1 hour long, with flexibility to suit a range of students' timetables.

A typical lesson begins by consolidating knowledge gained from either school or our previous lesson to ensure effective recall. We would then review the topic we are examining and promptly jump into practical problem solving - an essential of mathematics. Where possible, visualisation tools such as GeoGebra are used. Throughout, attention is brought to what is important for the student to understand, along ensuring the student is both competent and confident with the mathematics.
