I am a trustworthy, reliable and outgoing individual with a strong desire to learn and grow as a tutor.I am approachable and friendly yet professional and enjoy working with adults of all ages.
I am a postgraduate student from the University of Brighton with a 2:1 BA Honours degree in Photography. After completing my studies at University, I undertook a TEFL course in which I was awarded Grade Distinction for teaching English as a foreign language.
In late 2014, I travelled to Tanzania to teach Photography and English to street children. I worked with varying class sizes with ages ranging from 7 to 25. I Applied a hands on teaching approach to overcome language barriers and undertook basic Kiswahili lessons to interact with the students in their native language. Furthermore, I created lesson plans using the internet as a resource and Powerpoint presentations as an effective and visual teaching method.
From 2014 to the present, I have worked within the local community to deliver Photographic and Art based projects to local students, the elderly and to the wider community. My role was to deliver tasks in a creative and enthusiastic manner to engage students and assisting project facilitators in organising and planning group sessions. I also found myself teaching the basics of Photography on a one-to-one basis to students of all ages and levels of experience.
Since 2015 I have been tutoring students English as a foreign language on a one-to-one basis, focusing on beginner through to upper-intermediate level. Being a creative individual, I am keen to utilise creativity within my tutoring sessions to deliver engaging and enjoyable lessons. I believe that getting to know the tutee's preferred methods of learning is just as important as the learning the material itself. For example, some students prefer visual learning whilst others learn more effectively through speaking or listening. With this on board, I feel that my teaching methods will consider each tutee as an individual and make the learning process an easier ride.
