About Rayne
I am studying to get my teacher licensure and master's to be as effective of a teacher as I can be. I have done research at universities like UCLA and George Mason University in Geometry and Genomics (computational Biology). I am eternally curious and enthusiastic about discovering aspects of the world around me and sharing that discovery with others. I am working to channel this passion into a career and to continue building my skills so I can have the most tools and be the most effective tutor I can! When I am not teaching or learning in academic settings, I play guitar, TTRPGs, and video games. I find these activities can help me connect with some students and find surprising application of theory. (If you are grinding ranks in a game, win rate is super important, and that is all statistics!)

I teach most STEM subjects, mostly math, statistics, and biology. I personalize the learning to a student and spend the beginning of the tutoring learning about how they approach the subject. Then working with the student, I begin a collaborative process to create a plan to bolster strengths and mitigate weaknesses. Because of this approach, I have had success with many students with diverse learning approaches and learning difficulties like ADHD, dyslexia, and social difficulties. I usually use online resources, creating my own problems and assessments as well as creating a learning space either through Zoom or Teams. I also sometimes tutor locally, and meet at my local library or client homes. I believe in building student confidence and self-efficacy. This means I focus on building techniques and habits in students that will help them well into the future, long after the tutoring ends. Building independence and agency in students isn't the most economical approach, but I find it to be the most fulfilling and cause me to constantly exceed client expectations.
