About Kathleen
I have over 8 years of experience tutoring, with a consistent focus on test prep tutoring. I understand that even if you've learned the material in class, these tests can be intimidating and make many students nervous. My goal is not just to ensure that you understand the concepts, but also that we review test-taking strategies specific to the SAT, PSAT, and/or ACT. I also make sure my students are empowered to ask lots of questions, and to get clarification when a particular method or strategy doesn't make sense to them, as I will always be able to explain something in a different way.

I work with high school students to prepare them to take the SAT, PSAT, or ACT. I work with my students to determine which aspects of the test are most challenging for them, whether that's a particular content area, a style of question, or a combination of both. My focus is on building up your skills so that you feel confident in showing what you know on the test. To that end, I use a scaffolding approach that moves from working through problems together and discussing any concerns, to having students work through problems with prompting and assistance, to having them complete problems on their own and reviewing any lingering issues. A typical lesson might start with a review of concepts, then move through individual example problems with discussion of not only which answers are right or wrong but why, and finish with the student demonstrating their approach or problem-solving strategy on a group of problems.
