About Michaela
I have been teaching for five years with the North Vancouver School District, and working with children has always been a passion of mine. I have known from a young age that I wanted to become a teacher, and I truly enjoy helping students grow both academically and personally.
I believe that getting to know each student is an important part of effective teaching. I take the time to understand their individual strengths, interests, learning styles, and areas for growth so that I can create engaging, meaningful lessons tailored to their unique needs. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable, confident, and excited to learn.

My approach to tutoring is student-centred, supportive, and individualized. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, successful, and understood. I take the time to identify each student’s strengths, areas for growth, and learning needs, and then tailor lessons accordingly.
I use a variety of evidence-based teaching strategies to support student learning, including:
-Explicit and systematic instruction when introducing new skills
-Modelling and guided practice before students work independently
-Hands-on activities, games, and engaging practice opportunities
-Visuals, examples, and manipulatives to make concepts easier to understand
-Regular review and opportunities to apply previously learned skills
-Phonics and foundational literacy instruction when appropriate
-Strategies to build reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and mathematical reasoning
-Ongoing informal assessment to monitor progress and adjust instruction
