About Youssef

The reason I tutor stems from my passionate chemistry teacher, so passionate about his subject that it became infectious; I went from just studying the material to actually being curious about it. That shift from obligation to curiosity is one of the most valuable things a teacher can give a student, and it's what I want to pass on.

I like when a concept finally clicks for someone and I want to help others achieve this while bringing a bit of humour and genuine curiosity into how I teach. At the same time, I won't pretend grades don't matter: I know how satisfying it is to work hard for a result and I want my students to feel that too.

Of course, professionally, I take tutoring seriously; preparing for sessions, adapting to how each student learns, and measuring success by whether they leave more confident and capable, not just whether we got through the material. I enjoy these subjects and their challenge and I want to help others approach them the same way.

My core aim is to help students build understanding so that they can approach a question they've never seen before and not just recognise and repeat a method they've memorised. I focus on making sure students understand why something works so they can reason their way through unfamiliar problems as well.

At the same time, exam questions are a necessary and central part of preparation as that's what students are being assessed on, so past papers and exam-style questions are a regular part of our sessions.

Of course, I'm flexible to whatever a student actually needs, including reviewing and going over classwork, helping with homework, teaching new content ahead of or alongside the school syllabus, if a student wants to get ahead or needs a different explanation than the one given in class.

Lessons typically run for 60 minutes but this is always flexible depending on the student (and time of year as exam seasons tend to require more time).

I've achieved 44 points in the IB Diploma, with Higher Level Maths AA, Physics, and Chemistry. I am starting a Chemical Engineering degree at Imperial College London, a course that draws directly on all three subjects I tutor.

I have a year's worth of formal experience having tutored both GCSE and IB students, as well as plenty of informal work.
I tutor Maths, Physics, and Chemistry at GCSE and IB level (including both Standard and Higher Level IB).
My lessons suit:

Students aiming to improve their grades ahead of GCSE or IB exams.
Students who feel they understand content in class but struggle to apply it independently.
Students who want a tutor who genuinely enjoys these subjects and can bring that enthusiasm into lessons.
Students preparing for mocks, finals, or simply looking for consistent, structured support throughout the year.
