About Lara
As a neuroscience student, I have a greater depth of knowledge about methods that improve learning encoding and retrival than your average tutor and I am constantly seeking to learn more. I'veacquired a lot of knowledge concerning metacognition over the last 3 years but only last year did I feel I had a system good enough to start tutoring. So far I find it really gratifying and my studentsfind themselves shocked to see how quickly the ideas are clicking for them.
After completing my Msci, I am working towards doing my Phd at Oxford before going down the track to become a professor. Therefore, I consider this tutoring job very seriously, not just a part-time employment but training to become an inspiring and efficient professor in the future.
My aim is to make learning intuitive for students, meaning that hard ideas will be broken down in a way that seems like common sense to remember and connected and compared similar ideas to strengthen the neural circuitry. My homework for students is often making active recall flashcards as I find they are more important than past paper questions up until a certain point.

I hold my lessons on google meet where we will work on a shared OneNote Notebook, so everything we cover during lessons is available easily. I also create google classrooms for each of my students including all sorts of resources.
As a neuroscience student and enthusiast I like to spend a lot of time reading papers about the learning process and have also learnt a lot from learning coaches such as the well-known Justin Sung. My approach to teaching is quite systematic in the sense that I use a checklist of the specification to ensure every corner of the course is covered but also naturally dynamic since the baseline knowledge and personalities of every student differs.
I charge £22/ hour.
