About Maya
I’m a PhD candidate in Art History at UCLA with a degree in Education from Macalester College and a K–12 Language Arts teaching credential. I’ve taught 8th grade English, worked as a college teaching assistant at UCLA for the past five years, and taught a range of humanities and writing courses. For the past four years, I’ve also taught English literacy at the Los Angeles Public Library.
I know that finding the right tutor can make a big difference, and I hope to be someone you feel comfortable learning and growing with.

I love helping students become more confident writers and thinkers. I previously taught middle school English and, for the past five years, I’ve taught college-level courses while pursuing my PhD in Art History. I can work with students at all different age and grade levels, and I offer support for a wide range of writing needs—from class essays and reading assignments to college applications, academic papers, and exam preparation.
My approach is always hands-on and collaborative. I usually begin by talking through the assignment and identifying what feels difficult or unclear. From there, we might break down a reading together, brainstorm and organize ideas, build an outline, work through a draft paragraph by paragraph, or practice developing a stronger argument. My goal is not just to fix one assignment but to help you develop skills you can use independently. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and, most importantly, finding their own voice as writers.
