About Addison
Hello! My name is Addison Yelverton, and I graduated from UCSD with a major in Literature & Writing. I am a prospective law student with a boundless love for utilizing my English and writing skills for my creative endeavors and for supporting students' advancement. Though I am just embarking on my academic tutoring practice, through my two years of experience teaching youth dance lessons, I am quite familiar with and enduringly excited about working with students in multiple disciplines and activities. I am aware of, encouraged by, and compassionate about the reality of each student's unique mental framework and specific academic approaches for complete understanding. I am confident that my history of persevering through and triumphing over my adolescent academic difficulties, my fervent enthusiasm for English/literature/writing, and my proven beneficial guidance in youth dance lessons will enable me to assist in championing students' learning and growth. I look forward to beginning our work together!

As a UCSD graduate with a Literature & Writing major, an avid prose and poetry writer, and a prospective law school student, I am deeply passionate about the creative opportunities and career value engendered by education in and refinement of literary and writing proficiency. Though I am beginning my academic tutoring path, for two years, I have taught youth dance lessons. Through dance teaching, I have experienced the ways in which the advantageous traits I possess provide essential qualities and assistance to students. These characteristics and abilities will also benefit my academic tutor/tutee relationships and general processes. I am excited and energized about all things related to English (reading, writing, editing), and I offer adaptability, active listening, discernment, and insightful supportiveness that will facilitate a positive and progressive learning environment. By way of my active listening and discernment, I will appropriately gauge students' individualized needs and, via my ability to adapt, shift my approach to tailor my lesson plans accordingly. I also engage with all people, especially with students when contributing to their development in their formative years, with a supportive and empathetic lens. As a student who, in grade school, struggled with a speech impediment and mathematic mental blocks, I have a personal understanding of the importance of teachers and tutors who understand that students' specific challenges require individualized attention and do not define their intelligence or their potential future success. My services will be directed toward elementary, middle, and high school students.
