About Mikael
Hi! I'm an undergraduate student in Computer Science and Economics at McGill University.
Though I'm a student myself, from starting my own tutoring business with a friend to a more standard (but highly successful) role as a tutor at Impact Without Contact, I have plenty of familiarity with the dynamics of being on the other side of the screen.

When learning discrete math and integral calculus, my best learning experiences were found when going through practice questions that stumped me with a TA.
My teaching philosophy incorporates a tremendous emphasis on practice as a means to mastery. Not only is this a more evidence-backed and robust teaching strategy than dry lectures, it is also far more engaging.
A sample, hypothetical lesson plan is below (keeping in mind that the actual lesson plans could vary quite a bit; a student wanting to learn something on their own and one wanting to catch up with their class have very different needs!):
Lesson 2 (Calculus 1 with student X):
16:00 - 16:03 -- Greetings, itinerary for lesson
16:03 - 16:15 -- Review of previous lesson material, practice problems to assess student understanding and weaknesses
16:15 - 16:30 -- Lesson on derivatives, underlying theory
16:30 - 16:40 -- Individual problem solving for student
16:40 - 17:00 -- Complete practice problems with student, walk them through problems and create personalised practice problems tailored to their weaknesses as required
I am available to teach all normative math subjects taught in elementary to high school. Please send me any particular homework or sample questions you need help with before the lesson!
