About Oliver
I am passionate about providing affordable support to students who may not always have access to the resources they need. My goal is to help students learn in a conceptual manner rather than simply revising the mark scheme. This approach is essential not only for success at A-Level but also for university entrance tests. By focusing on building a strong foundational understanding at the GCSE level, I aim to equip students with the skills and confidence they need for their future academic pursuits.
I prioritise professionalism in all aspects of my tutoring. I am committed to creating a respectful and supportive learning environment, characterised by clear communication, punctuality, and thorough preparation (including marking work). This ensures that students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their concerns, which I believe is key to effective learning and personal growth.

I believe in a personalised and interactive teaching style that caters to the unique needs of each student. My methodology centres on building a strong foundational understanding of the subject matter, which allows students to grow in confidence and competence.
Through experience, I have found that students learn best when they possess a conceptual understanding of their subject. I begin by studying different topics and then help students see how they link together. Metaphorically speaking, each topic within a subject represents a city, and I have found that students retain knowledge best and can apply it to critically think about examination questions when they can see the roads that connect these cities together within the subject.
I incorporate a mix of direct instruction, hands-on activities, and problem-solving sessions to engage students and make learning enjoyable. I also utilise technology and various resources to enhance understanding and retention.
Having sat GCSEs and A-Levels, I understand what examiners are looking for. Previously, I worked at an online past paper database called ZNotes, where I gained access to a wealth of past paper questions. I am happy to mark these and provide constructive feedback.
Additionally, I have an iPad with a pencil, which allows virtual sessions to be extremely productive as I can work through problems collaboratively with students.
