About Erin
I have recently completed an MPhil in English Studies from the University of Cambridge, specialising in contemporary novels. Prior to this I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford.
I spent the COVID-19 pandemic teaching in a state school and providing mentoring to students in order to develop literacy skills. I am hugely passionate about the ability of tutoring to centre on the individual and to encourage attainment in English through enjoyment of literature.

I offer personalised A level tutoring centred around developing close reading skills and confidence, in order to encourage a creative and independent approach. With A Level tutoring, I focus developing confidence with close reading of unseen passages, in order to guide students through making independent and creative interpretations of literary texts, which allows skills to develop beyond just exam board teaching. I am also happy to work to specific texts and exam boards if provided with these, and can teach a range of abilities, with the aim of pushing students to reach their potential.
I also have experience mentoring students through university admissions, offering advice and guidance for university preparation, personal statements and Oxbridge prep.
I also offer GCSE tutoring, or more general literacy tutoring for students with low confidence with English. I spent two years during the COVID-19 pandemic working both online and within a school, developing literacy skills for students between Year 7-10. I worked particularly with students with SEN needs and low confidence with reading. My approach is to design sessions through close reading of short passages from a range of contemporary children’s and YA novels which can be personalised to the individual student’s interests. Lessons centre around reading fluency, comprehension and analysis.
I offer lessons online and my rate is £25 an hour.
