About Hannah

I have a degree in Environmental Governance and Business from the University of Guelph! I have a surplus of experience in environmental science, geography, economics, political science, marketing, business leadership, English and creative writing, and law. I also have 5 years experience in agricultural marketing and managing multiple businesses. I've managed butcher shops, hotels, restaurants, a consulting firm, and multiple volunteer groups across Guelph. I also worked for the Center Wellington Township for the homeless youth in the community by holding group mediation sessions to help better their lives. During university, I would engage fellow students in joining study groups so that we all could learn together since many are intimidated by the classroom environment of 500+ people. I have also done many hours volunteering in the career service center at the university to help students promote and gain confidence in the skills we are often told we do not posses. I edit resumes, help student prepare for law/vet school interviews as well as job interviews at a multitude of firms. I have helped students with less than "ideal" averages gain acceptance into med school. People really do tend to down play their abilities when really, we should all be polishing and shining up all we are capable of.

I like to incorporate group engagement and a safe environment for questions. I found during university, I relieved a lot of stress from students by always being the first one to engage or question a professor during a lecture. The more questions I asked, the more people who would thank me at the end of lecture. I find people tend to lack confidence in their decisions and chose to stay silent when really, they do know the answer, but they feared the retaliation of their peers on the off chance they didn't know. Sometimes, people can learn if they are given the chance to ask and engage at their own pace. I like to tailor my teaching to the student, rather than a broad range. Some people are quick to learn and require little attention, some students are quiet and need a more slow approach before they open up to learning from you. Although I get a lot out of helping people, my main goal is to give people confidence to learn. Anyone can do it, but if they do not feel empowered, whether by past trauma in the classroom, ESL and language deficits or they just do not feel like they are smart enough, they will fail. I like to make sure everyone I engage with no longer feels they are incapable. The first step is cutting down those barriers and overcoming the negative ideas we've placed on ourselves. The second, is building up the positive emotion regulation and then, only then, can you learn and absorb information you wish to.
